Praiseworthy Chambers

We all know the usual routine: you send off your application to Joe Bloggs Chambers, and then you never hear from them again. Considering how easy it is to put applicants out of their misery, the very least that you can expect from a Chambers is that they send you a polite rejection.

This page is a list of Sets that go above and beyond that minimum requirement - Sets who actually try to make this process as painless as possible, and who give the Bar a good name. If you think a Set deserves inclusion on this list, email minipupil@gmail.com outlining your reasons, or just leave a comment below.

In no particular order:

QEB Hollis Whiteman

In 2012 they have gone out of their way to keep candidates informed, with emails outlining their process and timetable, even before inviting anyone for interview.

2 Hare Court

Detailed post on the Pupillage Pages outlining their process, prompt, courteous rejection emails.

5 Essex Court

Provided an initial update email outlining how their process worked, prompt courteous rejections, and detailed feedback about the applications they received, why some succeeded, and what to avoid in future.

  1. I'd add 187 Fleet Street to that list. Last year I was rejected on paper, but I was offered feedback on my application, which you'll appreciate is very rare. Needless to say, I took on board everything they said and this year I have an interview there.

  2. 25 Bedford Row offered feedback from first round interviews; the 4 criteria and my score against each.
